Things to include in the final image:

I need certain things to appear in my mash up for added effect and for comunicating the mash up with the audience. I knew i was going to have the face of Clegg and two face but what else i needed to think of decrease things to add to the creation.

Things to add:

A coin, this would be combining my previous concept of using the double sided coin to reflect the decease in Nick Clegg. I knew the coin would be hard to get into the picture with out making it obvious but i think with a little work it will pay off.

The Suit, I know Clegg always wears a suit and its just my luck that so does two face i need to show the two sides of Clegg in this mash up. The suit can be clean one side and dirty the other showing how he acts differently in different scenarios

The teeth, The teeth will need to be added to the half of the face to show that gritty not caring attitude Clegg some times shows in parlement

These are just some of the ideas of items to add the the image with out iver crowding it. I will take into consideration these when creating the final image.

Going from ideas to reality

After thinking about what i could achieve with the time we had we knew we could do a lot. We took it upon our selves to do a test run to see what problems we would face. After taking the camera our for 30 mins we took some random shots of us and our friends in our campus. This is what we came up with: (Filmed with out Mike).

This was our first attempt at shot ideas and angles and just playing around with interior and exterior shots and looking into the differences in the film. We then took it apart and looked into what could be improved, colour balance, ISO and a source light. These were just some of the things that would make it better.(Obviously a mike as well).

White balance:

This was us looking into the white balance for a certain scene, we wanted walm tones in the composition. We looked into both walm and cool tones to see what brought the best effects. As you know the tones you use when filming will reflect the style of the final product and the way the audience will interpret the piece.

We filmed this with a canon 5D with a 50mm 1.4.

For the final shoot we plan to use:

• Canon 5D
• Canon 50mm 1.4
• Cowboy studio Shoulder rig
• 160 LED Light
• Either a rode video mike pro or Tascam 100 with a boom mike.

 

My Final Idea

My final idea is about Nick Clegg and how he showed his true colours during the 2010 election when he said he wouldn’t rase tuition fees but when elected he changed his opinion when elected. This shows the two faced actions of Nick Clegg.

I wanted to use this as an idea for my mash up as it is quite a new and big topic with in current affairs. I am still now unsure how to replicate this in the image, however at the moment i just want to have a strong concept for the project . When thinking about the concept i want people to have there own views on project and they can interpret it how ever they see fit. This then shows different views from different people.

Looking into political mash ups.

After having set my ideas on doing Clegg as two faced, i began looking into other styles of political mash ups to get further information on whats been done and whats new. When looking into political mashups i found a guys website called Max Farquar his website (maxfarquar.com) was very helpful as it allowed open views about all of the mash ups and text he placed on his website. All of the posts he had done were all about the different political view points and standings this was very helpful when looking through nick clegg.

After a few hours of searching i then found this poster of clegg mashed up by Max Farquar. It was Nick Clegg playing “jim carrey’s” role in liar liar. 

This mash up was the same route i was going to go down however making it more artistic and less prominent. This poster of clegg is incredibly obvious and almost doesn’t allow and freedom of thought for the audience. When conducting my project i really want to leave more room for people own thoughts and opinions. This would allow then to interpret it how ever they like, i believe thats the real reason behind mashups.

To be honest my heart did drop a little bit when i saw this as it does take roughly the same concept and manipulate in a slightly different way. 

I will continue to research in to other peoples ideas so i can try and make my project stronger.

 

Similar Ideas

I now knew roughly what i was going to have as my final image so i began looking into other mash ups, mashing up two faces to create one was a concept that i really embraced.

This was a photo i found on another wordpress called 2 people 1 face, i really liked the idea of mashing up two things to create one.

This concept is a good one for me and my 2 faced idea with Clegg i think that i can reflect the views and opinions of a lot of the public with this mash up.

The second one i found that was simular to my idea was a channel 4 advert for a new TV show that combined two faces in a strange but intriguing way:

These two are defiantly some of my favorites from the research so far these mashups are of 2 people but when ever i look at them i see different things!

This is a great mash up and i hope to replicate some thing simular when i begin the editing stage!

 

Concept To Creation

Going from my initial ideas to my final one was hard I really struggled with coming up with a strong concept that I could contextualize strongly in the next half of the project. After talking with Sharri I realized that going down the film route maybe wasn’t the best idea as it would be hard to contextualize and incredibly time consuming.

After people said the concept was strong enough I then started on the mash up its self I knew my idea was to show Clegg in his true two faced colours but how I was going to achieve this I wasn’t sure. I started thinking and sketching out ideas that I could develop further. I made a few quick mock up ideas but nothing I was proud of. Then It came to me I was going to make nick Clegg two face from batman I knew he concept was strong and now with this idea in my head I knew it would only get stronger. The idea to combine the batman character two face with nick clegg went perfectly with my concept of showing him for what he really is.

I knew now that I was going to combine the two characters but I didn’t know how I was going to do it. The main one that was stuck in my mind was half of cleggs face with the other half two face from batman this was the most prominent in my head and I feel the strongest. The other idea was to have clegg holding a 2 faced coin that was used in the film even though this one was a little discrete I think it could be very impactful and I could achieve a good end result.

The hunt for cleggs perfect image to manipulate was on!

Top Image Mashups

These are just some of the work by “The Real Foto” they are great forms for celebrity mash ups combining two celebraties and there similarities. These are some of my favorites ideas for this picture inspiration there done increasable well.

The jig saw style is thing i could take on board if i do a picture mash up. Im interested in both video and image mash ups just not sure what route to go down just now.

Making My Idea have Meaning,

For my visual effects piece i wanted to make it have some meaning, so that there was reason for me to create it other than the brief. After that i then began thinking about what words i can link to my project i came across a few but the words that stranded out to me most were “passion, indifference and drive.” these words stood out for my peice as the man lacks these words.

After thinking about my piece and how i could make it relevant i then began looking into film competitions and how i could create some work and get it recognised in the film world. I then found the reed festival and there was a film competition on for a film less than 3 minuets and the word the competition was based on was ambition and this word was absolutely perfect for my idea. The word associated with my man as it was something he lack just like the words i related to him earlier.

My idea then started developing so that i could fill both my visual brief and the word ambition. My idea was to create 2 videos one 30 seconds-ish and the other about 2 minuets so that i can hit both targets and get my self some external criticism. I think this would be a good idea for my second year project but ill have to talk with my tutor and see his views.

Video Mash Up – Initial Idea 1.

Looking into my favorite styles of mash ups I found that I do really like a video side of things. This is the route I might go down for this project as I am a film fanatic and love every aspect I really think I could get lost in this project. My fist few ideas were to take a Pixar film like up and transform it into a horror film. The reason for doing this would be to talk about the auteur theory and brand identity and why such a thing would never happen.

For my first concept it was the film UP, I thought about twisting the story line so that the granddad had kidnapped the boy and forced him to go on an adventure. I started by going and editing a few shots into a sequence then transfoering it over to sort out the colour into a more horror film style these are some of the colour grades from original to new.

 

I wanted to create a brown aerie feel to the film making people feel uncomfortable. This was my initial idea but further talks with Sharri and we decided against is as she kept reminding me we have to contextualize this in the 2^nd half of the project.
